Research
My publications in film studies include a reconsideration of 21st century modes of melodrama, thinking through apparatus theory with Karen Barad, and queering Michaengelo Antonioni via Siegfried Kracauer.

I’ve also written on how telephonicity opens up new modes of gendered relations in Pillow Talk: “Mother Talk: Maternal Masquerade and the Problem of the Single Girl.” camera obscura 42 (Fall 1999): 71-94.
Teaching
My teaching in film studies focuses on feminist and queer cinemas, as well as film theory across classical and contemporary periods. I have taught courses on melodrama and its recent reinterpretations, on the ABCs of feminist Francophone film (Agnes Varda, Chantal Akerman, Catherine Breillat, and Claire Denis), and most recently on Tilda Swinton’s oeuvre.
