Current research

I am currently working on two projects. My current book in progress, Animate Spaces: Fascination, Photogenie, and Other Queer Habitations, brings together film theory’s longstanding fascination with animacy of objects on screen (e.g., Kracauer, Epstein, Baudry) with recent new materialist reconsiderations of the animacy of matter and the overly narrowly-Eurocentric delineation of the human world (Karen Barad, Sylvia Wynter, Mel Chen, Kathryn Yusoff).

I am also developing a series of articles on queer narrativity and Renee Gladman’s Ravicka series. The first of these appeared in October 2022: “Thinking through Queer Narrative Forms with Ben Marcus and Renee Gladman,” Narrative 30.3: 364-87. https://muse.jhu.edu/article/865621. doi: 10.1353/nar.2022.0052

The second in the series, “The Physics of Ravicka” is forthcoming in Temporalities of / in Crises in Anglophone Literatures, ed. Sibylle Baumbauch and Birgit Neumann, Routledge.
